On 29 Dec 03 Deputy Sheriffs Evans and Kapple as well as Sgt. Hiatt responded to a domestic violence complaint at the home of Beth Mayle, age 24, 1131 State Route 555, Cutler. Ms. Mayle stated that her live-in boyfriend James Croston, age 26, began defaming her and her mother and when she attempted to leave he would not let her. Ms. Mayle attempted to phone her mother but Mr. Croston usurped the phone and removed the batteries. When she again attempted to leave, Mr. Croston took hold and shoved her into the corner of the couch, causing her nose to bleed. Ms. Mayle was then struck in the face and managed to flee to her mother’s house.
Based on the testimony of Ms. Mayle and subsequent investigation, Deputy Evans requested a warrant for the arrest of Mr. Croston for domestic violence. While Ms. Pasco began her escape, Mr. Whittaker lighted several pieces of tissue paper on fire and threw them at their Christmas tree; which was extinguished by Ms. Pasco before the Deputies arrived. After an investigation Deputy Norman requested warrants for the arrest of Mr. Whittaker for domestic violence, aggravated arson and kidnapping.
