On 13 Dec 03 a concerned Washington County resident
reported receiving an unsolicited email purporting to offer
child pornography. The case was referred to the Ohio Bureau
of Criminal Identification and Investigation and the Center
for Missing and Exploited Children (602).
On 13 Dec 03 a shooting, believed to have
been a suicide attempt, was reported in Washington County.
This incident remains under investigation (586).
On 13 Dec 03 Deputy Sheriff Simmons investigated a single vehicle
crash on County Road 340 seven tenths of a mile west of State
Route 821. Paul S. Meyer, age 32, 300 Fourth Street Apt. B,
Beverly, was westbound with one passenger on County Road 340
when he lost control of his vehicle while attempting to negotiate
a turn. After leaving the roadway the Dodge Durango hit a tree
causing disabling damage.
Mr. Meyer and his passenger were transported to Marietta Memorial
Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
On 13 Dec 03 the parent of a sixteen year old
Lowell resident reported her daughter left home at 4:45 pm on
12 Dec without permission and refused to return home. As a result,
Deputy Sheriff Eddy filed an affidavit requesting a summons
for the juvenile for being unruly.
On 13 Dec 03 Beth A. Cozzens, age 25, 571 Rockpoint Road, Fleming,
reported between 12:30 and 1 am on 13 Dec an unknown suspect(s)
damaged her black metal mailbox.
Further investigation also showed damage to other mailboxes
in the area. This case remains under investigation (1203).
The following individuals
were processed into the Washington County Jail:
Shawn L. Pierce, age 25, Dye Street PO Box 655,
Newport, for a felony charge of discharging a firearm in a residence
and misdemeanor charges of using a weapon while intoxicated
and domestic violence. Pierce was arrested in Newport by Deputy
Sheriff Hall of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office
and processed into the Washington County Jail on 13 Dec 03 at
3:25 pm.
Billy E. Moore, age 42, PO Box 304, Pax, WV, for a misdemeanor
charge of driving under suspension.
Moore was arrested on interstate 77 by Trooper Cunningham of
the Ohio State Highway Patrol and processed into the Washington
County Jail on 13 Dec 03 at 5:48 pm.
