On 11 Dec 03 Deputy Sheriffs initiated a traffic
stop on a blue truck on Muskingum Drive in Marietta.
Suspecting the presence of drugs, Deputies requested the assistance
of the K-9 unit from the Belpre Police Department. The K-9
indicated
the presence of drugs and a search yielded a used syringe and
an empty bag Deputies believe contained heroin. A check of
the
driver, Timothy J. Thorne, age 35, 1419 Hocking Road, Belpre,
showed he was driving under FRA suspension and Deputies also
found a bottle of narcotics and a scale used to weigh narcotics
in his possession. During the course of questioning, the two
other passengers in the vehicle, John Preston, age 43 and Melissa
Flesher, age 29, both of 598 Tennis Center Drive admitted using
heroin in the vehicle. The three were arrested and transported
to the Washington County Jail for the following:
Mr. Thorne, for possession of drug paraphernalia and driving
under suspension.
Mr. Preston, for possession of heroin, a Schedule II controlled
substance.
Ms. Flesher, for possession of heroin, a Schedule II controlled
substance.
On 11 Dec 03 an employee at the Beverly Food Mart,
415 Fifth Street, Beverly, reported a good Samaritan turned
in a license plate he found on State Route 60. Efforts are being
made to return the plate to its rightful owner (945).
On 11 Dec 03 Denise Malone, age 34, 845 County House Lane, Marietta,
reported a friend to whom she loaned a diamond ring and three
pairs of earrings has repeatedly refused to return the items.
This case remains under investigation (945).
On 11 Dec 03 Patricia Glover, age 56, 901 Park Avenue, New
Matamoras, reported her nephew took two rolls of Susan B. Anthony
coins
and a .22 caliber rifle from her home.
This case remains under investigation (1071).
The following individuals
were processed into the Washington County Jail:
Ronald S. Goddard, age 28, 327 ½ Fourth
Street, Marietta, for a misdemeanor charge of probation violation.
Goddard was arrested at the Double L by Patrolman Huffman of
the Marietta City Police Department and processed into the
Washington
County Jail on 11 Dec 03 at 12:45 am.
Roger L. Ward Jr, age 25, Route 2 Box 258, Lowell,
for a felony charge of robbery and misdemeanor charges of failure
to appear. Ward was arrested at his residence by Deputy Sheriff
Sears of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and processed
into the Washington County Jail on 11 Dec 03 at 11:30 am.
Carleton W. Sparks Sr., age 43, 313 Harmar Street, Marietta,
for a misdemeanor charge of probation violation. Sparks was
arrested at his residence by Deputy Sheriff Sears of the Washington
County Sheriff’s Office and processed into the Washington
County Jail on 11 Dec 03 at 2:30 pm.
Dennis R. Oakley, age 23, 330 Franklin Street, Marietta, for
three felony charges of assault and misdemeanor charges of
violating
a protection order, assault, menacing and resisting arrest.
Oakley was arrested in Marietta by Patrolman Hilverding of
the
Marietta City Police Department and processed into the Washington
County Jail on 11 Dec 03 at 8:10 pm.
