The Ohio Revised Code provides for the renewal of a CCW license 90 days prior to the license expiration. If the licensee fails to initiate the renewal process within this period, the CCW license will expire on the expiration date and will no longer be a valid license.

The renewal process of a CCW license requires the applicant to:
  • Present a new application, including all of the addresses from age 18 to the best of your knowledge;
  • Verify that the applicant has re-read the CCW pamphlet;
  • Have had a new passport-sized color photo taken in the past 30 days;
  • Provide the original or renewed training certificate of competency;
  • Provide valid photo identification;
  • The applicant will also be required to submit to fingerprint verification for a background check;
The cost of a renewed CCW license is $80 and must be paid for by certified check, cashier's check or money order.

Upon the successful completion of the background check, a new license will be issued with the original license number and a new date of expiration that is five years from the date of the renewal. During the renewal process, the current license will remain valid, but must be surrendered to the Sheriff’s Office upon issuance of the renewed license.

The original training certificate of competency or the issued CCW license is valid for license renewal purposes.
