
Chief Deputy Larry L. Stephens.
Chief Deputy Stephens was born in Marietta,
Ohio and graduated from Marietta High School and later from
the
United
Electronics
Institute in Louisville, KY. Stephens worked for IT & T
Aerospace/Optical Division, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the banking
field and Sperry Univac in the Engineering Lab as an electronic
technician before joining the Sheriff’s Office. Employed
by the Sheriff’s Office since 1975, he was promoted to
Sergeant in 1977, Lieutenant in 1991 and Major in 2001. He
is a licensed helicopter pilot and Commander of the Sheriff’s
Office Aviation Unit and Special Response Team. He is married
to Tammy Stephens who is employed at the Washington County
Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. They have six children
and nine grandchildren.
The Chief Deputy is the highest, non-elected
law enforcement position of the Washington County Sheriff’s
Office.
He is second in command to the Sheriff.
The Chief Deputy assists the Sheriff in the day-to-day
operations of the Sheriff’s Office.
